Roadtrip to Colorado {Part 1}

Whenever I tell my friends that we are going on another road trip they gasp in horror – as if it is a fate worse then death to be stuck in a car with children for longer then 3 hours. I don’t know why I just don’t see it that way – maybe its because I am too cheap to want to spend money on airplane tickets and rental cars. Maybe its because I hate to fly. Maybe it’s because I don’t like committing to trips until the very last minute – For example this road trip was literally planned 3 days before hand and took an unexpected detour to the coolest place ever ( You will see more of those images in Part 2 of the blog) _ or Maybe it’s because I absolutely love driving through the United States and seeing all the incredible little towns that remain a mystery to a majority of people. It could also be that I love that my children are total road warriors too. They are so amazing to travel with – that I literally get home from one trip and can’t wait to to do it again and again and again. So when we found out we were heading to Ouray, Colorado we started to Map out our route. Do we go the very sleepy way through Amarillo. Do we go the risky way – through the Million Dollar Highway which has us driving along a treacherous highway though the mountains – OR do we and as in We – I totally mean ME… Do “we” realize that going a totally completely different route – one masterminded by me and it just added a mere 3 hours onto our trip we could head out to one of the coolest places I have ever seen. Which route did we choose… you will soon find out. But knowing that the kids need to get out of the car – we made our first stop in Albuquerque and checked out Santa Fe that evening with the kids. Here are just a few of the snaps along the way. I really am just a mom with a camera when it comes to documenting my family “ins and outs” – Not trying to be artistic and perfect… just trying to remember that time when we didn’t know which room was ours, or that time when a Pinecone was the coolest thing they found and how Sutton being the baby sister kept playing keep a way with it. Or that time when Hayden took off his own shoes to give to his little sister. It is all those times and oh so many more that make up our life story a story that I will share with their own children some day as they start their own family adventures.
