Inspiration

Here we are in the doldrum of  January. The month that greets almost all photographers with dread.. those photographers who have barely recovered from a busy season are crossing their fingers that the new year will be good to them. That they will continue to grow in a business that has EXPLODED with talent.  Photographers are faced with time to reflect on who they are as an artist and who they want to be. Photographers who are in need of a little lift, a little beauty.. a little light – look within as they define their goals for the year to come. I personally wonder when will I be inspired to shoot again. The trees are bare.. the weather is frigid.. too cold to go out and play. So I think to myself – maybe I need to start getting back into decorating. My house is in DESPERATE need of some attention. Every dime has been poured into the business and the house is a little lackluster these days. So- we went to a furniture  outlet store – I grabbed my camera before we left. As usual, I wasn’t sure why I should bring it.. but I have learned, every time I don’t bring my camera is when I wish I had it.

These golden twinkly lights greeted us when we walked through the doors. And I quickly realized I wasn’t necessarily looking for furniture .. but instead was looking for inspiration. Now the inspiration wasn’t necessarily for a photo-op… I was inspired by how magical the twinkly lights looked beneath the sheath overlay… how it transformed a simple room into a winter wonderland.

I guess in the end -inspiration is much like that elusive “soulmate” we all looked for in our youth. Inspiration truly does happen- when you least expect it.
