10 minutes

So as we were about to leave for the day we ran into our hotel neighbors – As I  looked at their three children scampering around with my  three children, I gave a huge sigh of relief – Phewwww…. so they probably didn’t even hear the noise from our early morning hustle and bustle since we as parents become immune to such noises. I still laugh when I think about what my husband said before I actually met them …”Don’t ask what they are doing or you may leave me for them” – See I am a gypsy stuck in suburbia. I crave a life void of routine and schedules. I hate having a “my side of the bed” or “my side of the garage” . It took me years to accept that having a child heavily into soccer means we don’t have weekend excursions unless you call visiting different soccer fields an “excursion”.

Anyway – I digress – The T Family are taking a year long sabbatical from to-do lists and traveling the world.  I know… lets all say it together…” OMG, I WANT TO DO THAT”. I mean can you even imagine walking away from the bubble that we have created for our children and showing them just how incredible the real world is.

I talked their ear off and questions flew out of my mouth desperate to hear about their adventures and everywhere they have been. I ended our conversation with – ” What a privilege it is that you are able to give this to your children” … because in the end many of us don’t have the option to pick up and leave the jobs that are the livelihood of our families. As much as I crave that life – it just isn’t in our cards – which is why I live for our “Life Breaks” like Summer, Spring Break and Christmas. – Where we get time to just do whatever it is that we want to do.

As I walked away – I casually mention and feel extremely silly doing so…” I am a photographer…I mean isn’t everyone these days?” and then I say “if you want I will take a family photo of you guys tonight… We will be doing a picnic on the beach around 5:00”. At which point we said our goodbyes and headed on with our day.  We ended up getting home by 5:30 and I thought for sure there was no way we would all even want to go to the beach after the day we had…. But as we walked up to the door our Neighbors door was open and the kids were already hugging excited to see each other (isn’t that just awesome how kids just make friends like that).  So I said – Hey do you want that family picture… and they said..Sure….so off we quickly went.

There is something to be said when you shoot for you and not for them.  When rules are thrown at the window and you can throw caution to the wind. I promised one Family photo – what they got ended up to be so much more.

This is what we got 10 minutes later…

Go check out their adventures  at The Family Reset
